Moers, Date (12/07/21)
Triopt GmbH, an established partner in the field of mobile network operators and system suppliers has selected Druid Software and ZTE to provide the 5G Campus Network which will be used for testing transport and traffic for cyclists through vehicle-to-bicycle communication with 5G.
The test facility will combine indoor and outdoor 5G SA coverage and provide a foundation for the project in order to support the configuration of the onboard units and the alignment of the simulated radio wave propagation with measurements.
The project called ‘’Car2Bike.5G’’ will establish and test these 5G use cases to highlight the benefits of 5G for application developers and transport users. It aims to increase safety for cyclists in road traffic through vehicle-to-bicycle communication using 5G, therefore dangerous situations can be predicted and anticipated through C2X/V2X communication. However, this requires all the sensors of the vehicle and the bike to send data in real time, where the real time capabilities of 5Gs will be ideal for hazard analysis.
This project will be supported until the end of 2022 by funding from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitalization and Energy in North Rhine-Westphalia. The realization of the project goals is a key focus of the project partners Hochschule Niederrhein – University of Applied Sciences, Krefeld, and Smart Living GmbH, Dortmund, with close cooperation with the Competence Center 5G.NRW.
Competence Center 5G.NRW is a joint venture between leading North Rhine-Westphalia universities and businesses, which aims to develop North Rhine-Westphalia as a leading center in Germany and Europe for the development of 5G technology and its applications.
Jörg Dahms and Patric de Valk, Managing Directors of Triopt GmbH, said: “Triopt is proud to be delivering this exciting project for 5G.NRW. The use cases being explored will be essential to accelerating Industry 4.0. Triopt sees great potential in Campus 5G networks in Germany. We plan to leverage the experience gained in building this network for 5G.NRW, along with our years of experience in network and project management, to supply campus Networks for academia and industries across Germany in the near future. As we established our 5G-Campusnetwork as an open Laboratory, a test campus, for prototype development toward various business cases, it also provides an opportunity for companies to test their innovative projects using 5G technology on our site in Moers.”
Professor Dr. Christoph Degen from Hochschule Niederrhein – University of Applied Sciences said: “Triopt’s test facility which was delivered in record time and under budget will be invaluable to businesses, Industry 4.0 experts and application developers by providing knowledge on 4G & 5G technologies and on the delivery of use cases. Our work will be fundamental in introducing new capabilities into Smart Transport processes and systems which will provide more safety for vulnerable road users like bicyclists.”
Liam Kenny, CEO and founder of Druid Software said “The work of organizations like CC 5G NRW is invaluable for the exploration of the practical possibilities of 5G and the development of technologies and businesses capitalizing on Germany’s 5G Campus Network licensing model. As an established global provider of network core software for LTE and 5G “SA” private networks, Druid Software is delighted to bring our expertise to this project, and we look forward to working closely with Triopt GmbH in the future.”
The Competence Center 5G.NRW – CC5G.NRW (short: 5G.NRW) is helping to develop North Rhine-Westphalia into the lead market for 5G: It reduces technical entry barriers for companies, develops the economic potential for vertical markets – such as automotive and mobility, energy, food and agriculture, smart cities, healthcare and manufacturing and many more – and accelerates the diffusion of innovation. The Competence Center 5G.NRW is supported by four strong partners: Under the consortium leadership of SIKoM + at the Bergische University Wuppertal, the University of Duisburg-Essen, the Technical University of Dortmund and the FIR at RWTH Aachen are involved.
Triopt GmbH, founded in 2010, is a leading technical service provider and trusted partner of different network operators in field of planning, implementation and optimization in radio and fixed networks with home based in Moers. For more: www.triopt-group.de
